Just Communities in Maryland: A Bold Step Toward Equity and Reinvestment

See where we’ve been working for the last 50 years and where Governor Wes Moore announced the designation of 419 census tracts across Maryland as Just Communities.

Just Communities is a bold step toward reinvesting in neighborhoods that have long been underserved. At the Neighborhood Design Center, this work is not new. For over 50 years, we’ve partnered with communities across the state to support equitable, place-based development rooted in local leadership and care. We believe every neighborhood deserves access to safe, welcoming, and high-quality public spaces.

It’s powerful to see Maryland take this step to acknowledge and begin to repair the impacts of disinvestment, and we are eager to learn more as the Just Communities process unfolds.
