NDC Awardees

The Neighborhood Design Center is proud to be part of a family of volunteers, partners, and donors that not only make our work possible, but make it enriching and inspiring. One of the ways we acknowledge these relationships is through a series of awards. Here are those we’ve recognized for their contributions to NDC and to the community design field in the areas in which we work.

Nominations

Awards are given each summer. Nominations (and self nominations!) for all the above awards are accepted year-round via an online form found here. The nomination period closes annually on April 15th at midnight. Nominations received after that date will be considered the following year.

Selection committees vary depending on the award, but include NDC board members, executive staff, and previous award recipients. Hall of Fame status is granted annually to all qualified nominees.

The Larry Reich Award

Co-sponsored by the Neighborhood Design Center and the Baltimore City Department of Planning

The Larry Reich Award is given annually to an individual whose volunteer and professional work exemplifies a special commitment to community-based planning and design.  The Award was established by colleagues of long-time Baltimore City Planning Director Larry Reich to commemorate his pioneering concern for “bottom-up” inclusion of grassroots groups in neighborhood initiatives.  Larry Reich was Planning Director from 1965-1990 and was a central figure in the City’s Downtown Renaissance. Past winners are:

The Kelley Oklesson Community Advocate Award
