Federal Hill Playground Design Workshop
The Neighborhood Design Center needs 1 - 3 designers and/or planners with charette/public meeting/facilitation skills to assist with a design workshop for a playground project in Federal Hill Park for the evening of Monday, January 30. Landscape architects / designers are preferred but not required. The South Harbor Renaissance (SHR) community organization was founded by neighbors, park users and parents to promote and support the restoration, improvement, and ongoing maintenance of Federal Hill Park. SHR is working with Baltimore City's Department of Recreation and Parks to design, fund and execute a new playground on Federal Hill, a designated historic park. NDC volunteers will facilitate community discussions on the preliminary plan (prepared by Hord Coplan Macht) at a number of break-out tables in order to assure the space will meet the needs of residents and park visitors alike. To volunteer or for more information, please contact Kristen Humphrey, greeNDC Program Coordinator at khumphrey@ndc-md.org or call 410-23-9686 ext 101.
Facade / Interior Improvements for Second Chance
A team of volunteer architects and interior designers is needed to develop plans and designs for the Baltimore non-profit Second Chance, Inc. (SCI), which is in the process of moving to a new 150,000 sq ft warehouse facility. SCI works with local and regional architects, builders, developers and property owners to identify residential and commercial buildings entering the demolition phase and remove all reusable elements through deconstruction, waste diversion, and resale to consumers. As an environmentally and socially responsible organization, SCI also trains and hires unemployed individuals in trades of deconstruction, salvage, warehousing and customer service. NDC volunteers will work with Second Chance staff to design a new façade to the building along with plans for renovated accessible restrooms, and other interior spaces such as a workshop and computer training rooms, all of which should showcase the wide variety of salvaged architectural materials, finishes and furnishings they salvage and re-sell. To volunteer or for more information, please contact: Kristen Humphrey, greened Program Coordinator at khumphrey@ndc-md.org or 410-233-9686 ext 101.
