NDC Interactive Art Project
Alternative Roots Festival
June 25, 2011, West Baltimore, MD

The culmination of the Alternative Roots Festival was an outdoor festival along the City's "Highway to Nowhere" - a 1-mile stretch of Route 40 that demolished a once thriving neighborhood in West Baltimore. Thousands of people came out to reclaim this area and turn it into a celebration of community.

During the festival, NDC hosted an interactive art activity that asked people for their ideas of "What Should We Do With Empty Urban Spaces?" Thank you to CultureWorks for providing space for the activity.

Thank you also to Jenny Smeltzer, Lauren Bostic (center picture, right), Evan Richardson (right picture), and Barbara Aylesworth for volunteering to help with the activity and NDC's information table, as well as NDC staff members Kristen Humphrey, John Flippo (center picture, left), Rachel McNamara, and Mark Cameron.

The activity was especially fun for kids, who came up with some great ideas.
