Better Waverly Energy Saturday

The kick-off to NDC’s Energy Savers Program was the Better Waverly Energy Saturday held on Saturday, October 1st at the Waverly Family Center. The morning began with presentations by the Baltimore Neighborhood Energy Challenge and Civic Works Project Lightbulb. Following these presentations, Waverly Ace Hardware employee volunteers Bill Burch and Mark Dutton and greeNDC Program Coordinator Kristen Humphrey demonstrated several DIY home energy upgrades. Finally, each participant received a free DIY home energy kit, and Civic Works volunteers helped implement these upgrades in their homes as well as installing outdoor compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) on porches across the neighborhood.


Ben Jakubowski, Community Energy Savers VISTA, provides an overview for the morning ’s activities; Mohammed Shodeinde of Civic Works Project Lightbulb introduces their Free Home Energy Upgrade program.


Tom Caponiti of the Baltimore Neighborhood Energy Challenge introduces their program and invites participants to take the Challenge; Bill Burch of Waverly Ace Hardware demonstrates how to caulk around a window.


Mark Dutton and Bill Burch provide tips for installing shrink window insulation; Bill shows participants how to weatherstrip a door .


greenNDC Program Coordinator Kristen Humphrey demonstrates removable storm window installation; Civic Works volunteers installed CFL porch lights across the neighborhood.
