Brooklyn Family Health Center

In 2006 the Family Health Centers of Baltimore provided primary care services to 18,643 people in four locations—Cherry Hill, Brooklyn, and Calvert Street and St. Paul Place in Baltimore.  In order to meet the growing demand for affordable health services they wanted to replace their one-doctor family practice community health center in Brooklyn with a one-stop shop model of care to include multiple health services.  The target population in Brooklyn is low-income families whose incomes are below 20% of the federal poverty level, and who need primary care services, dental care, OBGYN, and behavioral health care.

Family Health Centers needed an architect to advise on weighing alternative sites, design and costs. Gabriel Kroiz of Kroiz Architecture developed a written and graphic program in order to assess three sites that the client was considering.  After deciding on a building in Brooklyn, a conceptual plan and elevations were developed by
Mr. Kroiz, assisted by David Pindell of the same firm.  Click on the plan and section to view enlarged images.

The client noted “the volunteer was incredible!” and that in addition to design services, they also received great advice on marketing and complimenting the revitalization of the area.  Now, with the help of NDC, they can begin fundraising for their new center in Brooklyn.
