In October 2008 a team of volunteers from Marks, Thomas Architects completed schematic architectural plans for the redevelopment of five properties to house the Ebenezer Development Corporation. The client had acquired the properties on the 300 block of East 24th Street in the Barclay neighborhood of Baltimore (see below) that they wanted to rehabilitate for youth and family programs, job skills training, community outreach, offices, and a small commercial venture.
To best accomplish the large scope of the project he volunteers advised on how to develop it in phases. The first phase would be the renovation of one of the rowhouses to accommodate a laundry and shop, offices and a conference room. Phase 2 would combine three adjacent structures to provide a multipurpose room, library, lounge and classrooms (see below). By Phase 3, the client would have acquired two more buildings for additional space. The land directly behind the row of buildings would also be transformed into a green oasis for all members of the community to enjoy (below). The final package included green recommendations regarding sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality (click HERE to see the final report and plans).
Nearly $20,000 in donated services were provided by the volunteer team!
