Colmar Manor Planning Project
In 2006, Scott Walters and Stefanie McKenzie volunteered to help produce conceptual designs for the redevelopment of two blocks in Colmar Manor along Bladensburg Road/MD202 and the Anacostia River in Port Towns. NDC's design concepts helped Port Towns CDC create a vision for redevelopment and aquire funding to move the project forward. The funds were used to send out an RFP for the "People's Harbor Project Competition." Four architecture firms: 1) CSD Architects (Scott Walter's firm!), 2) Meyer, Scherer, and Rockcastle, 3) Arel Architects with PageSoutherlandPage, and 4) Devrouax + Purnell each received $10,000 to produce an initial design concept.
In the fall of 2007, the designs were presented to the Port Towns CDC + Community. After several months of collecting and analyzing the communities' thoughts on the four designs, Port Towns CDC announced the winner
of the RFP at their Holiday Party. It was a tie between CSD Architects and Meyer, Scherer, and Rockcastle.
Congratulations to both firms and to our NDC volunteers, Scott and Stephanie! In 2008, Port Towns CDC will be moving forward with the project by sending out another RFP for developers. We look forward to seeing this project develop. For more info and project updates, go to Port Towns CDC Website.
